Old Woking Cricket Club

The OWCC is an open and friendly club, based in Woking, near Woking Park and the Kingsfield Football Stadium. The ground itself is hidden away with houses, woodland and a stream providing the perfect enclosure and boundary. On Saturdays we put out two teams which play in the Surrey Downs League. On Sundays we also put out two social cricket teams, whose mandate is to play an enjoyable and good standard of cricket, allowing our players of the past, present and future to thrive in a stress free environment. We are also proud to have an ever growing juniors section, who during the season will be trained by a team of newly qualified ECB Level 2 coaches, helping to train the players of the future. We field 3 colts teams, U13, U15 and U17 all of which participate in the West Surrey Colts League.

The facilities on offer at OWCC are fast becoming the best on offer in the region. We have two outdoor nets, a homely clubhouse and bar, arguably producing the best teas in the county, and with ECB Level 2 qualified coaches the training on offer here is amongst the best. And best of all our membership fees are very competitive and amongst the lowest in the area! There is more than enough parking if you just want to spend an afternoon watching great cricket in an atmospheric location.

The Club

The History

The club was founded in 1962 when Kenwoods Manufacturing Company moved from Woking to Havant, leaving the 'Remnants' to play in Woking Park. The club quickly established itself in the local area. This was due to the enthusiasm and efforts of the members. The guiding hand through the club's first 30 years existence was the late 'Snowy' Carter who sadly died in 1992. The clubhouse is dedicated to his memory.

Old Woking has leased its current ground since 1967 and thanks to the continuing dedication of members it provides some of the best cricketing facilities in the area. As Woking Remnants the club has won the Morrant Wey Valley Cricket League Second Division twice, in 1977 and 1985.

The club changed its name to Old Woking at the end of the 1997 season. In 1998 the club came second in the First Division of the Morrant Wey Valley Cricket League and also won the knockout cup.

In 2002 the club became a member of the Surrey Downs League, where our 1st and 2nd XI teams lie in the 2nd and 3rd Divisions respectively.

Affiliations

OWCC is built on a foundation of equality and openness. We strive to offer the best facilities, training and opportunities to players regardless of age, race or ability to play cricket in a safe and enjoyable environment. Our drive to meet these aims led to OWCC being awarded Clubmark Accreditation, in partnership with Surrey County Cricket Club and the England and Wales Cricket Board. Clubmark is a sign that our club has met high criteria designed to guarantee the safety and welfare of all participants at the club.

To help achieve and maintain Clubmark status we currently have at our disposal a team of ECB Level 2 qualified coaches. There has never been a greater opportunity to become a member and take advantage of the coaching on offer at OWCC.

OWCC are also proud to play host to the Club Nights of the Charlotteville Cycling Club. For more details on when these meetings occur, as well as more information on this clubs, please follow the link above to their websites.

West Surrey Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers also hold the umpire and cricket training courses at Old Woking C.C. For more information please click through to their website.
